About me

 I have been interested in creating visual art since my teens, when I took private art lessons. I later attended Emily Carr College of Art (within the photography department) and Langara College of Art and Design. More recently, I’ve been fortunate to attend many in-person workshops where I received invaluable instruction in portraiture from professional artists such as: Scott Burdick, Rose Frantzen, Dominique Medici, David Goatley, Elizabeth Zanzinger, and Justin Ogilvy.

I have shown my work in numerous exhibitions at the Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery (Granville Island), the Gibsons Art Gallery, The Silk Purse (West Vancouver), and other venues.

I am delighted to be back painting after a hiatus of four years, following severe eye complications and multiple eye surgeries.

Artist’s Statement

I am frequently inspired by a glimpse of energy, light, and vibrancy in someone, and I strive to paint this essence. I love the moment a portrait “comes alive” and the personality of the sitter shines through.

I paint primarily in oils, as I love the ability to move the paint around easily and mix the colours until I can find the right “fit.” I am experimenting most recently with leaving out as much detail as possible without losing the uniqueness that the subject holds, and allowing the energy to come through via the use of loose, rough brushstrokes and strong colour notes
